A FREE online perinatal education event delivered by medical professionals and experts in perinatal healthcare and fitness.
This FREE webinar will discuss taboo topics no one talks about except in private circles; subject matter glossed over at best and revealed only once you're part of the club (a little too late at that point to be helpful).
Unfortunately, this kind of closed-lid culture around pregnancy and birth does more than protect the mystery, it also keeps hidden information vital to the health and well-being of expectant parents.
The evidence-based education sessions are aimed at anyone is expecting or has given birth, and will provide information to empower families to know what to expect, how to prepare, recover and seek support if needed.
With over 20 speakers, including medical professionals, fitness experts and perinatal charities, the FREE webinar will give you evidence-based information and suggest practical ways to prepare, recover and get support.
Why was this event created?
1 in 3 women will have a pelvic floor issue perinatally, and 1 in 4 have mental health issues. These issues are common and often poorly understood. For example, that common symptoms such as urinary leakage are thought to be a normal part of motherhood.
Suzanne Vernazza is a pelvic health physiotherapist who treats women with issues such as prolapse, incontinence and pelvic pain. She founded Know Your Floors, a not-for-profit company with the aim of improving education about pelvic floor issues and other taboo subjects.
"I often have open and frank discussions with women who regularly report they did not feel prepared for the changes that pregnancy and childbirth brings. There are conflicting messages about topics such as exercise", explains Suzanne.
While antenatal education focuses on the labour and baby, there is often very little about Mum.
"I also found when I had my own children that as a mum there was very little support or education available to empower me to understand my choices", says Suzanne.
Through her work as a pelvic health physiotherapist, Suzanne surveyed women locally and found the only 13% had received information about the physical effects of pregnancy and 98% wished they had had more information.
For many years she has thought it would be useful to discuss the topics that are considered taboo, and finally she can!
"I hope the event will take the fear away and help women prepare better, understand their recovery and know how to access support", says Suzanne.
