Festive and outdoor ice rinks near Glasgow in 2018!

The Ice Rink in George Square has always been a festive favourite with families in Glasgow. Although there will be no Open Air ice rink this year in Glasgow City centre, if Ice Skating is something you and your family enjoy, you won’t have to travel far to find a Festive Ice Rink.

There are 3 different Festive Rinks within easy reach of Glasgow and they are all suitable for families.

1. Paisley Winterfest

Winterfest runs in Paisley Town Centre from Saturday 24th November until Sunday 30th December 2018. As part of Winterfest, there will be an Open Air Ice Rink. The Ice Rink will be open every day except Christmas Day.

Paisley Winterfest also has a Big Wheel that costs £4 per person, other children’s rides that cost £2 per person and a Christmas Market.

There are lots of parking facilities in Paisley Town Centre however or you can get there easily by public transport. You can get a train from Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street and it takes you to County Square which is just minutes away from the ice rink
If you prefer to travel by bus McGill’s run buses from Glasgow city centre to Paisley and the service numbers are 17, 38 & 26. The First Bus service No.9 also takes you to the heart of Paisley from Glasgow City Centre.

2. M&Ds On Ice

The popular Festive Ice Rink at M&Ds, which is in Strathclyde Park in Motherwell, is open from Friday 16th November 2018 until Sunday 6th January 2019. (The opening times vary each day between 11.00am and 8.00pm and they are all on the M&Ds website)
For Adults (Aged 16 and over) the price at peak times is £6.95 and the price during times classed as Off-Peak is £5.50.

For children the price at peak times is £5.20 and the Off-Peak price is £4.50. You can also buy a combined ticket for an adult and a child under the age of 5 and this costs £8.95 at peak times and £7.50 during Off Peak times. The price for a Family of 4 (which must include at least 1 adult) is £22.70 Peak and £18.35 Off Peak. Sessions last for 45 minutes and you can book online or just turn up and pay on the day as long as there is availability.

As well as the Open Air skating there is an indoor firepit to heat you up, some festive rides, an Outdoor Festive Market and some Festive Food and Drink.

3. Gemmell’s Garden Centre

The Christmas Ice Rink is back at Gemmell’s Garden Centre, which is in Stair in Ayrshire, for 2018.

The Ice Rink opened on Saturday 13th October 2018 and it will be there until Sunday 6th January 2019. It will be open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and the opening times are between 9.15am and 4.45pm.
A skating session costs £5.00 per person and they have skates available from Child size 7 to Adult size 12.

As well as the Christmas Ice Rink, Gemmell’s also have a Santa’s Grotto, A big Tractor Play Frame, Crazy Golf and a coffee shop serving lots of hot and cold food and drink.
