How To Trick-Or-Treat Safely
With Halloween just around the corner, we've put together a list of tips to ensure that everyone has fun in a safe environment.
For a list of Halloween events around Glasgow,
1. Costume Safety
Avoid masks that alter your vision and try to use hypo-allergenic make-up. Make sure costumes aren't too long so they're not a tripping hazzard, or contain sharp accessories.
2. Fire Safety
Make sure that pumpkins containing candles are placed at a distance where a child’s costume cannot be ignited. Consider using battery operated lights wherever possible.
3. House Safety
If you're expecting trick-or-treaters to the door, ensure they have a clear path by removing any furniture, branches or rocks that may cause an accident.
4. Pedestrian Safety
Travel in groups and cross only at corners and crosswalks (never between parked cars).
5. Be Visable
Apply light-reflecting material to costumes and encourage everyone to carry a flashlight. Stay on well-lit streets.
6. Sweets inspection
Inspect all children’s treats and never eat unwrapped items. Throw away anything suspicious.
7. Drive With Extra Care
Halloween is the one night of the year where lots of kids are running around and wearing dark costumes on the street - drive slowly!
8. Pet Safety
Keep pets inside as Halloween can be stressful, even on the friendliest cats and dogs.
