Get up close and personal with the animals, learn more about rural life, and enjoy the nearby country theme activities.

Here are 5 of the best kid friendly farms near Glasgow, all within an hours drive.

1. Lamont City Farm

Lamont Farm Project is a vibrant community and animal welfare project located in Erskine. You can meet a wide variety of animals, including ducks, hens, horses and goats, and they also have a reptile room!

There is also an attached set of well-tended allotments adjoined to the farm, which are exceptionally beautiful during the summer.

When: Open 7 days a week (times vary)

Price: As they are a charity, an entry charge is not required, but all donations are greatly appreciated.

2. Palacerigg Country Park

Less than half an hour's drive from Glasgow, Palacerigg Country Park provides a sanctuary for wildlife, including thriving populations of roe deer, badger, fox and hare, as well as sparrowhawk, kestrel, long-eared and short-eared owl.

There's a cafe on-site and the opportunity to explore nearby nature trails and places of historic interest.

3. Briarlands Farm

Outdoor activities at Briarlands Farm include bottle feeding the cute wee lambs, a sheep pen maze, tractor and trailer rides and plenty of play facilities to keep the kids entertained!

While you're there, try your hand at archery and pick up a jar of home-made jam.

4. Newparks Farm, Muiravonside Country Park

Newparks Farm is a small demonstration farm where a range of rare breed Scottish livestock, rescued animals and birds are homed. It's a great place to bring kids as you'll find information at each enclosure telling you about the animals.

The farm is surrounded by 170 acres of stunning woodland and parkland, a sculpture trail, children's play area and a café at the Visitor Hub courtyard.

Where: Muiravonside Country Park, The Loan, Whitecross, EH49 6LW

When: Newparks Farm is open to the public all year from 9:30am until 4:00pm

Price: You can support the work they do by donating in the farm courtyard.
