A fantastic place to teach kids about farm animals.
Muiravonside Country Park in south-east Falkirk (30 minutes north-east of Glasgow) is 170 acres of woodland and parkland open to the public all year round.
As well as marked trails, picnic sites and a play area, you'll also find Newparks Farm – a small demonstration farm where a range of rare breed Scottish livestock, rescued animals and birds are homed.
Animals you will find:
Highland cattle: Billy and Freddie
Clydesdale horses: Hamish and Jake
Shetland ponies: Charlie, Robbie, Teddy and Eddie
Pigs: Red and Amber (Tamworths); Summer, Spring and Autumn (Wessex Saddle Backs)
Llamas: Fudge and Larry
Soay and Hebridean sheep
Amazon parrots: Chico, Alfie and Del
Donkeys: Birch, Harley, Partland and Pierce
It's a fantastic place to bring kids as you'll find information at each enclosure telling you about the animals.
The restored farm steading buildings house an assortment of smaller animals including numerous rabbits and exotic birds, whilst the nearby wildfowl pond and bird enclosures contain the flocks of larger birds like chickens, geese and ducks.
