Newparks Farm

by Jemma Fletcher (follow)
A fantastic place to teach kids about farm animals.

Muiravonside Country Park in south-east Falkirk (30 minutes north-east of Glasgow) is 170 acres of woodland and parkland open to the public all year round.

As well as marked trails, picnic sites and a play area, you'll also find Newparks Farm Ė a small demonstration farm where a range of rare breed Scottish livestock, rescued animals and birds are homed.

Animals you will find:

Highland cattle: Billy and Freddie

Clydesdale horses: Hamish and Jake

Shetland ponies: Charlie, Robbie, Teddy and Eddie

Pigs: Red and Amber (Tamworths); Summer, Spring and Autumn (Wessex Saddle Backs)

Llamas: Fudge and Larry

Soay and Hebridean sheep

Amazon parrots: Chico, Alfie and Del

Donkeys: Birch, Harley, Partland and Pierce

It's a fantastic place to bring kids as you'll find information at each enclosure telling you about the animals.

The restored farm steading buildings house an assortment of smaller animals including numerous rabbits and exotic birds, whilst the nearby wildfowl pond and bird enclosures contain the flocks of larger birds like chickens, geese and ducks.

When: Newparks Farm is open to the public all year from 9:30am until 4:00pm

Where: Muiravonside Country Park, The Loan, Whitecross, EH49 6LW

Price: You can support the work they do by donating in the farm courtyard.
